PRAMATHA NATH BOSE: b.1855, d.1934: Educated in England: Gilchrist Scholar Joined GSI 1880; 1st. Indian graded staff:  With the College 1901-02 :Discovered and investigated various mineral deposits; the most important is the Fe-ores deposits of Mayurbhanj that led to the foundation of the TISCO: Author of  “ History of Indian Civilisation under British Rule” and various other publications.

PJ BRÜ HL: b.1855,d.1935: Educated in Germany: Came to India in 1881 : Lecturer 1902-03, 1905-6; also in BE College 1887 onwards; Principal BE College; also in Rajsahi Govt. College 1882; IIS Bangalore 1912; Registrar CU 1913; Organised Biology Laboratory in CU; Prof of Botany : CU conferred D Sc (Honoris Causa) for his service and contributions. 

ERNEST( WATSON) VREDENBURG: b.1870, d.1923: Joined GSI 1895:Lecturer 1906,1907-11: in CU 1917-20 :Worked extensively on various subjects: An able speaker, a linguist, an enthusiastic collector of art, a brilliant pianist.

DN WADIA: b.1883, d. 19  :Joined GSI 1921: Lecturer 1924-25: Made contribution to Geology of Northwestern Himalayas; Author of the well-known textbook “Geology of India”

Memoirs on barite and asbestos deposits of  Madras; also studied rocks of Baluchistan & Waziristan.

JA DUNN: b.1899, d. n.a.:Joined GSI 1921; Officiating Director 1945:
Lecturer 1929, 1936-38: Author of the famous Memoir on Bihar and Orissa; also of handbook on Indian mining; studied many virgin areas:Took premature retirement in 1945; settled in Australia ( at least till 1952): ISC (Pr., Geol.) 1943.
